Activated carbon adsorption box is a device for activated carbon adsorption and waste water advanced treatment. Among them, activated carbon is made from carbon-containing materials such as wood, coal, and fruit shells under high temperature and anoxic conditions. It has a very large specific surface area (500-1700m² / g) and high adsorption capacity. This characteristic is commonly used in the adsorption of organic gases, including benzene, esters, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, phenols, gasoline and other occasions. The activated carbon adsorption method has its unique advantages for low concentration, high air volume or intermittent operation.

working principle


Activated carbon is a very small carbon particle with a large surface area, and there are even smaller pores-capillaries in the carbon particle. This capillary has a strong adsorption capacity. Due to the large surface area of the carbon particles, it can fully contact the gas (impurities); when these gases (impurities) hit the capillary, they are adsorbed, thus purifying the gas.

According to the different forces between activated carbon molecules and pollutant molecules in the adsorption process, adsorption can be divided into two categories: physical adsorption and chemical adsorption (also known as active adsorption). In the adsorption process, when the force between activated carbon molecules and pollutant molecules is van der Waals force (or electrostatic attraction), it is called physical adsorption; when the force between activated carbon molecules and pollutant molecules is a chemical bond, it is called chemical adsorption .

The adsorption strength of physical adsorption is mainly related to the physical properties of activated carbon, and has nothing to do with the chemical properties of activated carbon. Because van der Waals' force is weak, it has little effect on the structure of pollutant molecules. This force is the same as the intermolecular cohesion, so the physical adsorption can be likened to the phenomenon of condensation. The chemical properties of the pollutants remain unchanged during physical adsorption. Due to the strong chemical bond, the structure of the pollutant molecules is greatly affected, so chemical adsorption can be regarded as a chemical reaction, which is the result of the chemical interaction between the pollutant and activated carbon. Chemical adsorption generally involves electron-pair sharing or electron transfer, rather than simple perturbation or weak polarization, which is an irreversible chemical reaction process. The fundamental difference between physical adsorption and chemical adsorption lies in the force that produces the adsorption bond.

In short, there is unbalanced and unsaturated molecular gravity or chemical health on the solid surface of activated carbon. When this solid surface comes into contact with the exhaust gas, it can attract gas molecules, make them concentrated and stay on the solid surface, and pollute substances And the odor is absorbed. After using activated carbon for a period of time, it adsorbs a large amount of organic pollutants, gradually saturates, and loses its working ability. At the same time, the system resistance also increases. Therefore, the regeneration or replacement of activated carbon should be carried out regularly.
